CAMPAIGN: A Commitment to Ending Domestic Violence

A few months ago I had the opportunity to be on the video set of Mary Kay’s latest Don’t Look Away campaign abuse prevention project. The vision behind this project was to create a public service announcement to illustrate the statistic that one in four women in the United States will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. It’s one thing to hear a statistic, but it’s takes on a whole new meaning when you understand the lives that are impacted by it.

Our team spent an entire day with each of the four women featured and had hours of incredible footage to work with. Our creative partners edited the piece into something that is extremely moving and we hope you’ll want to share with others. We debuted the video at Mary Kay’s annual Leadership Conference in Nashville and now it is having another special unveiling for the entire world to see.

Through the powerfully authentic stories of these brave women, One in Four is an opportunity to start a conversation about the issue of domestic violence and share information about life-saving resources like the Mary Kay-powered text-for-help line. By texting “loveis” to 22522, users can be instantly connected with an anonymous advocate who can provide help.  Please join us in watching, sharing, and discussing Mary Kay’s One in Four PSA.  As you do, I challenge you to think about who the one woman might be in your life.

This One in Four PSA is currently entered in a prestigious film festival. Vote here for this video and help us share the message that everyone deserves to be in a safe and healthy relationship.

Today's blog post is from Katharine Bain, a graduate of the 2013 Mary Kay summer internship program, who is ecstatic to be back full time on the Corporate Social Responsibility team contributing to programs that enrich the lives of women and children all over the world
