(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) Harrisburg, PA – November 1, 2011 – Susquehanna Service Dogs’ newest litter of puppies is now live on the SSD puppy cam. SSD Hope, Kate, Maggie, Lucy, Carol and Buster of the Eastern Star litter will be playing and exploring their world on a live video stream available on the SSD website.

Born on October 20, 2011 to SSD Midge, the Eastern Star puppies are named after famous actors and actresses who supported our troops during times of war. Many of these actors and actresses provided entertainment in the United Service Organization shows at army bases in the United States and abroad. The names were chosen by the Eastern Star.

When these puppies are eight weeks old, they will join their puppy raiser families, where they will start to learn the skills they need to be successful service dogs. Before they are placed with their partners as working service dogs, they will learn specialized skills, such as how to open doors, turn lights on and off, retrieve numerous items, find the phone and more.

The puppies will be available for puppy hugging, starting when they’re four to five weeks old. For more information about puppy hugging, email SSD’s executive director at nfierer@keystonehumanservices.org or call SSD at 717-599-5920. People can also give the puppies a puppy shower gift to get them off to a good start as they learn to become service dogs. Puppy shower gifts can be made online.

SSD is looking for volunteers to raise these and future puppies. If you live in central or northeastern Pennsylvania and are interested in raising a puppy, please complete SSD’s online application.

SSD has been training service, hearing, balance and psychiatric service dogs since 1993. SSD is a member of Assistance Dogs International and Capital Area United Way. For more information about Susquehanna Service Dogs or Keystone Children & Family Services, visit www.keystonehumanservices.org.
