The Fort Bend, Texas, Regional Council on Substance Abuse (FBRC) recently recognized Union Pacific General Solicitor David Young with its Helen Cordes Award for his steadfast devotion to countless projects and events.

A longtime Fort Bend County resident, Young participated on several charity boards and joined the FBRC because of its work in preventing substance abuse.

"The FBRC provides school-based prevention and treatment services," Young said. "These programs have helped literally thousands of children. Joining the FBRC's board was a good way to get involved and help make a difference."

Young has been involved with the FBRC for nine years and served on its board of directors from 2004 to 2010, the last two as board president. He also has been the driving force behind the FBRC's annual Corporate Challenge bowling tournament, one of its major fundraisers, which has brought in thousands of dollars for the FBRC's youth programs. Union Pacific has sponsored the tournament for many years.
