This Is... Today!

This Is... Today!

My day started with getting my hair and makeup done with the wonderful makeup artist Diana Manzanares. My go-to touchup Mary Kay products were True Dimensions Lipstick in Sizzling Red and NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss in Berry Tart.

As we entered the TODAY show we were met by paparazzi—no, not for me, but for “Pitch Perfect” and TBS’ “From the Ground Up” star, Skylar Astin. He was very nice and even stopped to take a picture with me!

From there we were taken to the green room where we realized we were in the presence of TODAY Show Lifestyle Expert Maureen Petrosky. Before going to hair and makeup we got a chance to go into the Orange Room to watch part of the TODAY show being filmed. I briefly met Matt Lauer here and he couldn’t have been nicer as he welcomed me to the show!

After a quick visit to the Orange Room we went back to the green room where we got the closest encounter to Royalty outside of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (who were also in New York at the same time). Former “Downton Abbey” star, Dan Stevens (aka Matthew Crawley) was there with his entourage preparing for his appearance to promote the new “Night at the Museum” movie.

Next, we were escorted downstairs for a last minute hair and makeup touchup. Walking in the room I literally bumped shoulders with TODAY Show correspondent and daughter of President George W. Bush, Jenna Bush Hager as well as Michael C. McGinley from NBC’s “Scrubs” and TBS’ “From the Ground Up”. We also saw our new friend Skylar Astin here again, too!

As we headed back upstairs to the green room we saw Michael C. McGinley and Skylar Astin setting up to promote their segment for their new show on TBS “From the Ground Up”. With a couple minutes to spare, we stopped to take it in and see what they were up to!

Once we were back upstairs our partner from the TODAY show, Sam Sagenkahn, briefed me on what to expect during our segment. We also got to see Hoda Kotb who is just as gregarious and funny in-person as she is on TV. Hoda met us with a warm, “Hello, how’s everyone doing?!” and gave my colleague a pat on the back.

After all the celebrity sightings it was time to meet the real stars of TODAY—Willie Geist, Tamron Hall and Dylan Dreyer (filling in for Al Roker) for our donation segment. I was mic’d up and taken into the studio! Before the interview Tamron affectionately told me how she was from Dallas, and how she thought it was so cool that Mary Kay was there! Dylan mentioned how her sister used to sell Mary Kay and that she loved Belara perfume.

Then, it was time for the big moment. If you haven’t seen our donation announcement watch it here!

This was such a wonderful and meaningful experience. Even though I may have been a little star struck, I kept thinking about the wonderful contribution we’ve made and how many families we’ll be able to help this holiday season—and that is what makes this experience the best! Special thanks to our partners at the TODAY Show, including Sam Sagenkahn and Chelsea Miller (not pictured) for all their hard work!

Beauty That Counts

Giving back and making others feel important has been part of our corporate culture since Mary Kay Ash founded Mary Kay Inc. in 1963. It’s part of who we are and we’re committed to enriching the lives of women and children all throughout the year—especially during the holidays!

For ten years, Mary Kay has donated more than $40 million in Mary Kay products and toys to the TODAY Show Holiday Toy and Gift Drive. Mary Kay is the largest donor to this toy drive, and this year, we’re donating more than $3 million in Mary Kay products to help make the holidays brighter for families in need.

As part of our donation we were invited to be on the TODAY Show to talk about why we’ve been giving back for the past decade to the TODAY Show Holiday Toy and Gift Drive. It was a very gratifying and unforgettable experience!
