Global outdoor lifestyle brand Timberland recently hosted the company’s team of Global Stewards at Timberland headquarters in Stratham, New Hampshire for their 12th annual week-long training meeting. The Global Stewards, a team of 30 dedicated and passionate employees from 20 different countries, volunteer above and beyond their regular job responsibility to serve as ambassadors of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to their location. The Stewards’ role is a two-year commitment to drive community service, forward Timberland’s environmental agenda, and create business value. Since 2006, the Global Stewards have helped amplify the brand’s service and sustainability work worldwide, extending the reach and impact of Timberland’s NH-based CSR team.

During the meeting, the Stewards shared best practices and lessons learned, received professional development training, aligned on and set global strategy, served together and built relationships with Stewards from around the world.

“This year the team welcomed its first-ever Steward from Scandinavia. Each time the team expands to include a Steward from a new location, it’s really a vote of confidence in the value the Stewards generate for their locations,” said Atlanta McIlwraith, senior manager of community engagement and communication. “Over the past few years the team has grown to include Bangladesh, Korea and now Scandinavia. This team truly has global representation and reach throughout Timberland’s network of locations and because of that we’re able to increase our impact and bring our values to life around the world.”

The annual meeting not only offers the Stewards training sessions, it connects each individual Steward to the global team and the work they are doing, motivating them to succeed.

“Being a Global Steward is an amazing experience,” said Eder Diaz, Costing Specialist and veteran Global Steward for the Dominican Republic. “As Stewards we inform, inspire, and engage our fellow employees to make their difference in the world and it’s incredibly rewarding to see the change we can make in our workplaces and our communities over time.”
