A Taste of General Mills

More than ever, people around the world are taking notice of the large amount of food wasted every day.

Look around … where ever food is grown, processed, transported, prepared, sold and eaten, there’s food waste.

This graphic from Feeding America shows the amount of food, in pounds, wasted just in the U.S. every year.

But people and organizations are taking action in some pretty powerful ways to change the trajectory of the food waste trend around the globe.

As we mark Global Food Rescue Month, we wanted to highlight three organizations, in the latest episode of our “A Taste of General Mills” podcast, that are doing their part to rescue millions of pounds of food every year while feeding those in need.

FareShare, in the UK, rescues food from companies and grocers and distributes it to charities. You’ll hear from their CEO.

Also in the episode, The Campus Kitchens Project, which uses commercial kitchen space at colleges in the U.S. to transform excess food on campus into nourishing meals for the hungry.

And, you’ll learn about Feeding America’s mobile app – MealConnect – that’s opening up a whole new frontier of food rescue by empowering restaurants, convenience stores and grocery stores to easily donate their surplus food.

As a global food company, General Mills is deeply committed to ensuring that food systems are sustainable. So with billions of pounds of food wasted every year around the world, we partner with organizations who are working to rescue food from being wasted or tossed into landfills. In this episode, we spotlight the outstanding programs of FareShare, Feeding America and The Campus Kitchens Project. For more information, visit us at blog.generalmills.com.
