GAITHERSBURG, Md., September 24, 2018 /3BL Media/ — Sodexo, a food services and facilities management company committed to quality of life, was named as a top-ten company most praised by NGOs (non-governmental organizations) for its leadership on environment issues, human rights and animal rights in the second quarter of 2018 by global research and strategy consultancy, SIGWATCH. Sodexo was specifically commended for its pledge to source only cage-free eggs by 2025.

“Our data has shown a significant change over the last 10 years in how activist groups view business and how business sees NGOs,” said Robert Blood, founder and managing director of SIGWATCH.  “Consumers are increasingly more alert to the environmental and social responsibility of businesses.  In response, businesses like Sodexo accept that they have an obligation to ensure that their supply chains are sustainable and address issues such as animal welfare.  We congratulate Sodexo on topping the list with its actions.”

Sodexo announced in July 2016 that it will source only cage-free eggs – both shell and liquid – from local producers worldwide by 2025.  This major commitment in the company’s animal welfare strategy advances its mission to contribute to the economic, social and environmental development of the cities, regions and countries where the company operates.

Sodexo also works to champion sustainability, mitigate its carbon impact and reduce its environmental footprint. Additionally, as an international company, Sodexo recognizes its responsibility to promote and guarantee human rights as stated in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Labor Organization principles.

“We are honored to be recognized by NGOs for our leadership in corporate responsibility”, said Ted Monk, Sodexo North America Vice President of Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility.  “Our Better Tomorrow 2025 roadmap is comprehensive and details our strategy for improving quality of life within our roles as an employer, a service provider and a corporate citizen.  In addition to our work with animal welfare, Sodexo is focused on driving change in the areas of Hunger, Gender and Waste.”
