Are you a student wondering which courses to take, which career to pursue? And looking for work experience while you learn? I’ve got a hot tip for you. Employment in the STEM field—that’s science, technology, engineering, and math—is projected to grow two times faster than the average for all occupations over the next four years, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. And there’s more: economic projections are that the U.S. will need one million more STEM professionals then the country will produce over the next ten years at the current rate, according to the Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

To help a new generation of students and future workers take advantage of this imminent surge in technology opportunities, SAP, has launched BTECH, the Business Technology Early College High School, in Queens, New York. Developed in collaboration with the New York City Department of Education, Queensborough Community College, and the Early College Initiative at the City University of New York, BTECH offers students a high school diploma and an associate degree in business systems or engineering technology while gaining work experience in the business technology field. The six-year program includes on-the-job experience and professional development training working in IT or the corporate environment via apprenticeships, internships or job shadowing within the SAP ecosystems. Here’s the bottom line: the BTECH program is offered at no cost, if you’re one of those selected for enrollment.

I’m John Howell for 3BL Media.
