Results from 30 GM facilities that fulfilled the EPA Energy Star Challenge for Industry

(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) - December 16, 2011 - General Motors has met the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star Challenge for Industry by reducing energy intensity by an average of 25 percent at 30 plants in North America. Collectively they avoided more than 778,380 metric tons of greenhouse gases — the equivalent of the emissions from powering 97,000 U.S. homes.

  • Bowling Green (Ky.) Assembly: 12,884 tons, 26 percent

  • Defiance (Ohio) Casting Operations: 30,878 tons, 10 percent

  • Detroit Hamtramck (Mich.) Assembly: 28,863 tons, 16 percent

  • Fairfax (Ks.) Assembly: 45,381 tons, 16 percent

  • Flint (Mich.) Assembly: 46,968 tons, 30 percent

  • Flint Engine Operations: 4,918 tons, 10 percent

  • Flint Metal Center: 14,857 tons, 27 percent

  • Fort Wayne (Ind.) Assembly: 52,021 tons, 22 percent

  • Lansing (Mich.) Grand River Assembly: 35,736 tons, 25 percent

  • Lansing Regional Stamping: 4,318 tons, 21 percent

  • Lordstown (Ohio) Assembly: 93,579 tons, 32 percent

  • Marion (Ind.) Stamping: 31,304 tons, 38 percent

  • Parma (Ohio) Stamping: 22,226 tons, 28 percent

  • Pontiac (Mich.) Stamping: 10,074 tons, 24 percent

  • Romulus (Mich.) Engine: 16,347 tons, 15 percent

  • Toledo (Ohio) CTC: 38,425 tons, 32 percent

  • Tonawanda (N.Y.) Engine: 19,601 tons, 31 percent

  • Wentzville (Mo.) Assembly: 53,102 tons, 22 percent

  • Ramos Arizpe (Mexico) Assembly: 22,088 tons, 23 percent

  • Ramos Arizpe Engine: 2,497 tons, 12 percent

  • San Luis Potosi (Mexico) Assembly: 8,672 tons, 26 percent

  • San Luis Potosi Transmission: 13,784 tons, 50 percent

  • Silao (Mexico) Assembly: 10,010 tons, 10 percent

  • Silao Engine: 7,391 tons, 23 percent

  • Silao Transmission: 25,592 tons, 51 percent

  • CAMI (Ontario) Assembly: 26,031 tons, 33 percent

  • Oshawa (Ontario) Car Assembly: 32,877 tons, 16 percent

  • Oshawa Stamping: 3,530 tons, 19 percent

  • St. Catherine’s (Ontario) Engine: 5,630 tons, 14 percent
