BTs Better Future 2012 report highlights progress made, and challenges, in its goal to be a responsible and sustainable business leader. The report can be viewed at www.bt.com/betterfuture

Society is facing some monumental challenges. To help meet them, BT will be unveiling some bold long term goals as part of its Better Future strategy later this year.

The report covers how BT is:

Helping people to be better connected through its technology and network;

  • by accelerating its rollout of fibre broadband in the UK, investing both the capital and people to deliver a year ahead of schedule, helping businesses to work faster and smarter and individuals to connect more easily, saving time and carbon
  • by solving the challenges of connecting more people online safely and securely

 Helping people to be better with less by delivering lower carbon ways to connect;

  • by being the first company in the world to have its product carbon footprints independently verified by the Carbon Trust to the new GHG Protocol Product Standard
  • by cutting its own carbon footprint through reduced energy use - down 3.3% (after business growth), saving £21.9m

 Helping people live better lives through digital services;

  • by helping raise £38.5m for charity partners through its telethon efforts
  • by investing £31.9m in time, cash and in kind support in its communities 

Becoming a better business - delivering on improvement targets for; ethics, supply chain standards and employee engagement.

This 11th annual combined social and environmental report is assured by LRQA, in accordance with AA1000AS (2008). The report is indexed using GRI (G3) guidelines, ISO26000 and includes BT’s UNGC communication on progress.
