July 30, 2018 /3BL Media/ - In keeping with its commitment to create a better world for tomorrow's child, the Ray C. Anderson Foundation has recently become a  CarbonNeutral® Certified Company effective year-end 2017.  The Foundation has committed to reduce its carbon footprint as much as possible in its daily operations, and then to measure its impacts and purchase certified offsets for any greenhouse gas emissions associated with staff and trustee operations and travel.

"Five years ago, we made the commitment to make our annual RayDay celebration a CarbonNeutral® Certified Event, and we are pleased to take this next step to offset all of the carbon associated with our daily operations and travel-related impacts," said John A. Lanier, executive director. "We are excited to take this commitment forward through 2018 and beyond."

While many small companies or organizations may think becoming a CarbonNeutral Certified Company is unreachable, it is not.  There are plenty of options to start small and then grow the commitment over time, like the Foundation did, and the online tools made it very easy.

Upon certifying the Foundation at the company/organizational level, the staff members and trustees were able to choose one of three key carbon offset areas of focus: Power Portfolio, Health Portfolio or Habitat Portfolio.

Because of the common thread that already exists across many of the Foundation's funding priorities for the connection between renewable energy and carbon dioxide emissions, the Foundation has chosen the Power Portfolio.

The Ray C. Anderson Foundation encourages other nonprofit organizations and small companies to look into their options and join the ranks of others who have made this commitment.

In addition to becoming a CarbonNeutral Certified Company, the Foundation has also found many other ways to help address greenhouse gas emission reductions through its various funding initiatives including:

Biomimicry Global Design Challenge - a global design challenge focused on nature-inspired designs that help provide positive solutions to climate change challenges;

Global Change Program at the Georgia Institute of Technology;

Carbon Reduction Challenge - a joint partnership between the Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business at the Scheller College of Business and the Global Change Program at the Georgia Institute of Technology;

Project Drawdown;

NextGen Committee's Grants to Alliance for Climate Education (ACE)
