Promoting Sustainable Development: Water Agenda Runs Deep

Aug 14, 2013 10:00 AM ET

The call for a cleaner and healthier environment is now louder than ever — and …

According to the Progress on Drinking Water and Sanitation 2012 Update, roughly 11 percent of the global population, or 783 million people, are still lacking access to improved drinking water sources.  Professionals from Engineers Without Borders, the CEO of Water for People and AECOM came together to discuss the importance of public engagement to implementing global water initiatives.

In light of mounting concerns about degrading and depleting potable water supplies as well as the lack of adequate water and sanitation infrastructure in many nations, AECOM employees have donated, volunteered and campaigned around a number of initiatives to help address these growing challenges around the world.

Addressing these water challenges is part of AECOM’s overall corporate social responsibility outreach, which included more than US$3.6 million in total charitable donations during fiscal year 2012. AECOM has been advocating for better water management around the world and has collaborated with communities implementing water and sanitation systems in partnership with Engineers Without Borders (EWB) and Water For People.
