The TIME100 Most Influential Companies list was announced on Tuesday 27 April and is an expansion of the annual TIME100 list of the world’s most influential people. Ørsted is recognised for transforming its business model from fossil fuels to renewables, and for its role in the global move towards technologies that could prove critical in fighting climate change.

TIME writes: “Many energy companies say they plan to transition away from fossil fuels to renewable-energy sources; Orsted is often held up as an example of a company actually doing it.”

Mads Nipper, CEO of Ørsted, says: “The world must halve global emissions by 2030 and companies play a crucial role in the much-needed acceleration of global climate action. At Ørsted we strive to be a catalyst for change as we deploy renewable energy at scale to help governments and companies around the world transition to green energy. Therefore, we’re very excited to be included in the inaugural TIME100 Most Influential Companies list and for being recognized for our contribution to speeding up the global transition to green energy.”

Ørsted is today one of the largest renewable energy developers in the world. The company develops, constructs, and operates offshore and onshore wind farms, solar farms, energy storage facilities, and bioenergy plants, and provides energy products to its customers. The company has rapidly transformed its business from fossil fuels to renewable energy and is on track to be carbon neutral in 2025. The company is also taking decarbonisation beyond its own walls, with a target of net-zero emissions in the entire carbon footprint by 2040.

According to TIME, companies in the TIME100 list are evaluated on key factors, including relevance, impact, innovation, leadership, ambition and success. The list was assembled by soliciting nominations across sectors including health care, entertainment, transportation, and technology from TIME’s editors and correspondents, as well as from industry experts..
