Federal Computer Week (FCW) recently named Booz Allen Executive Vice President Dee Dee Helfenstein among the winners of its 2019 Federal 100 award, which recognizes individuals who are going “above and beyond” to make an impact in the federal IT space.

Helfenstein leads Booz Allen’s Solutions Business which is responsible for solving cross government challenges such as mobility and cybersecurity; modernizing the digital citizen’s experience with government; using AI to transform how agencies meet their missions; and leveraging immersive technologies for military training.

In 2018 under her leadership, Booz Allen is diversifying its portfolio by accelerating a Solutions Business that develops integrated leading-edge technology-based products and solutions. This involves developing new business models and sales channels outside of the traditional services market and cultivating partnerships from startups to technology giants that position Booz Allen as the go-to partner for technology services and transformation in the federal marketplace.

The Solutions Business delivered two innovative and game-changing solutions to the federal marketplace last year: District Defend, a mobile security solution, and a commercial-grade, cloud-native digital platform for Recreation.gov.

By dynamically changing security protocols on mobile devices, District Defend lets public and private sector clients operate in a mobile fashion without compromising network security. Its release follows a 16-month pilot in highly-sensitive government environments.

Additionally, the technology platform that underpins Recreation.gov is a commercial-grade cloud native digital platform that is transforming how citizens interact with the government. This premier outdoor experience platform, offers personalized, mobile-first, content-rich, data-driven access to our federal lands and waterways and is revolutionizing how the government works with private partners like Booz Allen.

Catalyzing innovation and inclusion

District Defend and the new technology platform, Recreation.gov, are two highlights from Helfenstein’s 20-plus year career supporting federal IT initiatives. She’s led teams working on the modernization of the IRS, the stand-up of DHS, Dodd-Frank implementation at the SEC, and implementation of Benefits.gov for the Department of Labor.

Helfenstein also spearheads a wide variety of diverse and inclusive innovation efforts. She leads Booz Allen’s Innovation Hubs and tech-scouting efforts across the country and supports tech entrepreneurs as a board member with The Vinetta Project and a mentor with SparkLabs.
