Omaha Doubles Down on "Peyback" Giving
January 29, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Omaha’s philanthropic “shout-out” to Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is growing in volume ahead of a Super Bowl Sunday encore. The huddle of participating companies now stands at 15, almost double the size of the first “Omaha Peysback” on Jan 19.
The larger collective of companies is pledging to donate a combined $1,500 to Manning’s PeyBack Foundation every time the standout QB shouts “Omaha!” during the Feb. 2 championship against the Seattle Seahawks. (Follow the latest on the effort on Twitter: #OmahaPeysback)
The initial “Omaha Peysback” included eight companies: CenturyLink, ConAgra Foods, Cox Communications, DJ's Dugout, First National Bank of Omaha, Mutual of Omaha, Omaha Steaks and Union Pacific. 31 Manning “Omaha!s” on Jan. 19, netted the Peyback Foundation a check for $24,800 ($800 x 31).
Seven more companies have signed on to donate on Super Bowl Sunday: Brix – A Wine and Spirits Experience, HDR, Inc., NorthStar Financial, Omaha Storm Chasers, Omaha Box Company, One Transcription Services and Oriental Trading Company.
Manning kicked off the “Omaha!” frenzy on Jan. 12, shouting the city’s name before at least 40 plays against the Chargers. Those “shout-outs” garnered hundreds of print, broadcast, and Internet mentions and inspired the Omaha business community to call a philanthropic audible of its own.
“It’s no surprise these companies would step up to give back. The Omaha community has been benefitting from their generosity for years and years,” said David G. Brown, president and CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber.
Manning’s PeyBack Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable organization that promotes the future success of at-risk children by assisting programs that provide leadership and growth opportunities.
