OSHA Aligns with GHS to Improve SDS

59 Days Before SDS Compliance
Apr 2, 2015 12:00 PM ET

Think you are compliant with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) updated Hazard Communication Standard? The June 1, 2015 deadline is fast approaching, which requires manufacturers to update their Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) to the new GHS standardized 16-section Safety Data Sheet (SDS) format. Neglecting this regulatory requirement could result in a violation with steep fines and penalties.

For instance:

Recently, OSHA administered an inspection on a manufacturer on September 13, 2014, in response to a complaint. OSHA investigators found that workers were exposed to chemical hazards. Citations were issued for five serious violations, including the company’s failure to properly label hazardous chemicals and failure to produce chemical safety data sheets.

MSDS/SDS are the cornerstone of Hazard Communication Standard and Chemical Regulatory Requirements. They can also be a costly and time-consuming element to manage in order to remain compliant. Source Intelligence provides a cloud based platform to build a SDS management program around your chemical inventory and a business operations center that will acquire the updated SDS documents on your behalf as they become available from the manufacturer.  Scott Hepner, Director of Customer Support Services at Source Intelligence with over 22 years of industry leading experience is featured in an interactive webinar that provides the key insights on an effective SDS management plan.
