PERRYSBURG, Ohio, June 18, 2021 /3BL Media/ – O-I Glass, Inc. has announced its Brockway facility in Brockport, PA has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR certification, which signifies that the industrial plant performs in the top 25% of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.

“At O-I we have set ambitious goals in our journey to become the most sustainable producer of the most sustainable rigid packaging option,” said Jim Nordmeyer, Global VP of Sustainability for O-I Glass. “The Brockway team continues to set the pace in operational advancements as evidenced by this ENERGY STAR certification.”

Earning ENERGY STAR certification highlights O-I Brockway’s status within the top 25 percent of glass packaging plants. O-I Brockway improved its energy performance by managing energy strategically across the entire organization and by making cost-effective improvements to the facility.

“Commercial buildings and industrial plants account for nearly half of the nation’s energy” said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “But through benchmarking performance and a strategic approach to energy management, it is possible for companies to save energy, save money, and protect the environment.”

To earn the ENERGY STAR, O-I Brockway increased energy efficiency through a combination of increasing cullet utilization, improving lehr curves, reducing energy during peak periods, improved furnace energy stability, incorporated forehearth burners and added energy-efficient motors.

“Our team continues its drive for new and innovative ways to conserve energy associated with producing sustainable glass packaging,” said Bo Preston, Plant Manager for O-I Brockway. “Achieving our ENERGY STAR certification is not just a win for Brockway, but it is a win for all of our North American facilities as we drive for our collective sustainability.”
