CAMPAIGN: A Commitment to Ending Domestic Violence

We talk a lot about beauty at Mary Kay – we are a beauty company after all! We especially love when beauty transforms a woman from the inside out. We don’t always have the opportunity to see this in person, but I was fortunate to experience this first hand during Mary Kay’s Global Day of Beauty.

Around the world, Mary Kay and our independent sales force from the United States to Ukraine and from China to the Czech Republic launched this multi-month initiative to help provide makeovers for women in need.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, domestic violence survivors in Miami, Washington, D.C., New York City and Los Angeles received a much-deserved day of beauty and pampering from Mary Kay. Many of the women we had the honor of hosting are currently living in emergency housing or are in transition while they rebuild their lives after fleeing an abusive relationship.

To see these women go from one pampering station to the next to receive Mary Kay products, makeup application tips and eyebrow shaping was like watching roses bloom before our eyes! Not only did we see these beautiful women glow from the outside, but also more importantly, on the inside. We all know that if we look good, we feel good and these women looked great!

Our Don’t Look Away Cause Champions, actress and singer Debby Ryan (known for her starring role in television’s “Jessie”) and fashion designer Abi Ferrin, also joined us at these events. Abi shared her own story of abuse; ultimately, her journey to becoming a “victor” truly was a real-life inspiration to the survivors who learned more about her in Mary Kay’s new public service announcement series, "One in Four."   Debby also made a huge impact with her candidness and personal mission to create awareness of dating abuse – an epidemic that impacts one in three young people today.

As we wrapped up these events across the nation, we sent dozens of deserving women home with more than just Mary Kay products. We wanted to remind them that they are special, beautiful and strong and deserve, like all women, to be treated with respect and dignity.
