CAMPAIGN: Making a World of Difference

“We are not really in the cosmetics business – we are in the people business. We're in the business of helping women change their lives and helping them to know how great they really are.”  - Mary Kay Ash

At Mary Kay, we do a lot to fulfill Mary Kay Ash’s mission to enrich the lives of women around the world. Last month, this took the shape of a $2,500 scholarship in a partnership with the Hispanic Communicators DFW association to recognize the outstanding performance in the field of communications for Hispanic PR and Journalism students.

This year’s recipient of the Mary Kay scholarship is Elvia Limón, a graduate PR student at the Mayborn School of Journalism at University of North Texas (UNT).

With Mary Kay’s scholarship, she will be able to pursue her dream of enrolling into a study abroad program from her school in London where she will be able to take some additional classes, visit the headquarters of some of the biggest media outlets in the world and network with people.  “This financial aid from Mary Kay will allow me to focus more on my research and not have to take any additional student loans. It feels like taking 100 pounds off my shoulders,” says Elvia. “Thanks to Mary Kay’s support, I will be able to help my family pay my tuition and explore more options within graduate school.”

To participate in this scholarship program, Elvia submitted two essays. The first essay was an autobiography and with the second one, she tried to address the issues that Latinas are facing in the United States. As a future PR professional, her main focus is the role of Latinas in the media, a topic that she also chose for her master’s thesis.

A fun fact… She used to live very close to the Mary Kay headquarters in Addison and her mother was the customer of one of our Independent Beauty Consultants in the area. “I grew up using Mary Kay products,” says Elvia. “When I told my mom that I was awarded with the Mary Kay scholarship, she couldn’t be happier.”

Congratulations Elvia! We are very proud of you and we are sure that you will have lots of success in the future!
