WASHINGTON, Nov. 5, 2013 /3BL Media/ – In celebration of ENERGY STAR Day 2013, LG Electronics USA and PTO Today joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to recognize the top 25 winners of the Fall “Team ENERGY STAR” challenge.

Team ENERGY STAR is a multi-year initiative from EPA’s ENERGY STAR program that involves kids in helping their families save energy and money at home, while teaching them how energy efficiency is good for the environment.

Thousands of youth and their families participated in this year’s Team ENERGY STAR Challenge by taking the “EPIC Pledge” to save energy at home by performing simple actions ranging from turning off electronics when not in use to recycling to planting a tree. Families also competed for the title of “Most Epic Player” by sharing Team ENERGY STAR information or their energy-saving actions on social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter.

EPA ENERGY STAR officials judged the EPIC Pledge submissions and determined the winners based on the creativity and ingenuity of their energy-saving actions. The first 250 families to take the EPIC Pledge received their own copy of the movie, EPIC on DVD, from the creators of ICE AGE.

The top 25 winning families are being awarded prizes from LG Electronics, ranging from LG ENERGY STAR certified LED/LCD flat-screen HDTVs and LG ENERGY STAR certified LED Monitors to LG Android smartphones and feature phones, to LG wireless speaker docking stations. In addition, some top winners, selected by the EPA from the Most Epic Players, will be featured on LG’s electronic billboard in New York City’s Times Square.

“ENERGY STAR Day is an ideal time to remind families that small individual actions can make a big difference in addressing climate change,” said Wayne Park, president and CEO, LG Electronics USA, a 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year. “We’re excited to see more families getting involved in Team ENERGY STAR, and we’re proud to continue to reward them with cool LG prizes for their energy-saving efforts.”

To expand the reach of Team ENERGY STAR this Fall, the EPA encouraged dad bloggers to spread the message about the campaign. Dad bloggers who helped promote Team ENERGY STAR earned a chance to win cool LG prizes. Dad Ally, a leading dad blogger, was randomly selected by EPA as the winner and is being awarded a 42-inch LG ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 3D Smart TV, as well as an LG 3D Blu-ray Disc player and a 3D copy of the movie Epic on DVD.

“We’re thrilled that, in its second year, Team ENERGY STAR has engaged even more kids and their families in learning easy ways they can save energy and protect the climate,” said Jill Vohr, director of marketing for the EPA’s ENERGY STAR Labeling Branch. “EPA thanks LG and PTO Today for helping us recognize families for their energy-saving actions as we celebrate ENERGY STAR Day ‘13.”

About ENERGY STAR

EPA’s ENERGY STAR program helps people across America make the best choices to save energy, save money, and fight climate change – at home, at work, in their businesses, and in their communities. Only products, homes, and buildings that meet strict standards of energy efficiency and performance can earn the ENERGY STAR label. In 2012 alone, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved $24 billion on their utility bills and prevented greenhouse gas emissions equal to those of 50 million vehicles. From the first ENERGY STAR certified computer in 1992, the ENERGY STAR label can now be found on products in more than 65 different categories, with more than 4.5 billion sold over the past 20 years.
