PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 20, 2013 /3BL Media/ – LG Electronics USA underscores its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability advocacy by showcasing its broad portfolio of energy-efficient products for builders and consumers at the 2013 Greenbuild International Conference & Expo that opens here today.

Selected by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as “Official ENERGY STAR® TV Provider for Greenbuild 2013,” LG also is the leading technology provider for this year’s “GreenZone” exhibit, with energy efficient LG products integrated throughout the net-zero residential green building shown for the first time at the expo.

The Greenbuild GreenZone, commissioned by SGC Horizon, is a flagship exhibit and demonstration space featuring a unique model home during the two-day expo. In addition to highly efficient home appliances and electronics, the exhibit highlights LG air conditioning solutions that deliver enhanced efficiency without sacrificing the stylish look coveted by today’s design-savvy consumers.

“LG is committed to helping protect the environment through the development and manufacturing of innovative, energy-efficient products, and our technology alliance with the USGBC at Greenbuild is an important extension of our commitment to sustainability,” said Wayne Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics USA. “The wide variety of LG ENERGY STAR-certified products in the GreenZone exhibit further demonstrates that with LG, it’s all possible. You don’t have to sacrifice performance and style for energy efficiency in every room of the house.”

Living Greener – Residential Demonstration Home

Architect Joe Tanney and builder Simplex Industries combined a green living philosophy with a high-design aesthetic and modular building techniques to develop the living space on display at GreenZone. The only residential building structure on display at Greenbuild 2013, the 800-square-foot modern cabin-style home features natural lighting and technologies with green in mind, including rainwater collection, a super-insulated envelope, greywater system and ultra-high efficient HVAC technology.

“Our goal for the GreenZone project was to push the sustainability envelope and create a real-life building application that shows how easy it can be to live efficiently without compromising style and comfort,” said Simplex Vice President Dave Mertz. “Simplex selected LG as its exclusive technology partner based on the company’s commitment to environmental advocacy and broad portfolio of ENERGY STAR certified products that are helping this GreenZone home to achieve net-zero energy and leading environmental certifications, including LEED Platinum.”

This elegantly designed, ultra-efficient residential space includes a number of advanced LG products, including home appliances, HVAC systems and consumer electronics:

  • Home Appliances – The home’s high-end kitchen features the LG Studio premium series of kitchen appliances that seamlessly blend energy efficiency with stunning design and higher performance. They include the LG Studio 42-inch built-in side-by-side refrigerator-freezer (model LSSB2791ST), TrueSteam™ dishwasher (model LSDF9962ST), 30-inch gas cooktop (model LSCG306ST), built-in wall oven (model LSWS305ST), and over-the-range microwave (LSMH207ST). The refrigerator and dishwasher are both ENERGY STAR qualified, meaning they use at least 20 percent less energy than required by federal standards, helping to reduce energy bills and overall energy consumption.
  • HVAC – LG’s multi-zone duct-free split heat pump, the MULTI F, provides heating and cooling for two to three zones, with other Multi F products offering up to eight separate zones, providing capacity of up to 54,000 BTUs with increased efficiency ratings and decreased noise levels.  LG’s Multi F system offers a range of indoor unit options that can be customized based on structural design and application needs; for the GreenZone the system is configured with two ducted horizontal concealed units, but other options could include wall-mounted, ceiling cassettes and mixed indoor units.
  • Consumer Electronics – LG’s 55-inch class 1080P LED TV with Smart TV(model 55LA6200) – designated by the U.S. EPA as “ENERGY STAR MOST EFFICIENT” – combines smart energy-saving features with a stunning CINEMA 3D viewing experience with exceptional picture clarity and the advanced interactivity of LG Smart TV.

Commercial Energy-Efficiency in Action – “Pedia-Pod” Pediatric Center

Complementing the residential space, the 2013 Greenbuild GreenZone also features a modular pediatric treatment center designed and constructed by NRB, a leading Ephrata, Pa.-based builder. The “kid-friendly” medical center showcases a waiting room/play area, which features LG’s commercial grade health-care TV, as well as range of interior finishes, a specialized bathroom, treatment/recovery area, and medical staff workstation.

LG health-care TVs are designed to enable medical professionals to easily communicate up-to-the-minute, personalized information introducing new ways to reach patients and guests. These commercial-grade TVs are ENERGY STAR qualified and incorporate LG’s EcoSmart™ features, which allow for multiple manual and automatic options for energy conservation, providing an ideal solution for health-care facility administrators seeking to save on energy costs while doing their part to address climate change.
