Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute annual operations plan, manage department teams in support of SAI’s annual goals and mission. Track record of success in effectively and efficiently meeting goals. Supervise, manage, coordinate, and thus support the fulfillment by staff, authorized reps, Sr. Advisors and consultants of the goals and objectives of the departments, all within a modest budget of roughly four million dollars.
    • Corporate Programs & Training for global brands and producers in a wide range of sectors and countries
    • Development (proposal development & fund-raising)
    • Communications
    • Research and nurturing active relations with diverse stakeholders
    • Coordinating and inspiring Country Representatives & Senior Advisors located globally
  • Provide effective and inspiring leadership by being actively involved in all programs and services
  • Lead a high performing team of department directors and regional representatives to the next level by further developing and implementing recruitment, training, and retention strategies, including annual performance reviews, and also lead in selection, assignment and training of interns.
    • Convene weekly staff meetings for the 15 headquarters staff plus ones based abroad (by speaker phone)and ensure staff are current on each others’ programs; meet weekly with Department Directors and Senior Managers to track high quality and on-time delivery, identify and address any challenges.
    • Supervise and set quality standards for all programs and staff; oversee program evaluation.
    • Support and participate in partnership implementation for program delivery and mission implementation.
    • Participate actively in writing, design, budgeting of funding requests and marketing
  • Provide programmatic leadership and input for all strategic and annual planning processes with the CEO, staff and Boards.
  • Oversee or conduct internal audit, serve as secretary of corporation, staff one or more Advisory Board committees.
  • Support the CEO on strategy, development, board leadership,  and communications.
  • Coordinate and support departments, field staff and authorized representatives to improve marketing of SAI services, including:
    • Develop case studies based on SAI programs
    • Compile general presentations
    • Weekly communications with field staff and authorized representatives on program and organizational activities
    • Monitor staff travel to maximize meetings and related events
    • Open new markets and channels for service delivery
    • Develop capacity of field staff to contribute to enrollment and development of course content, guidance for their regions and fund raising

Qualifications and core competencies

  • At least 10 years professional experience, with a track record of success. Minimum five years supervising seasoned staff.
  • Business management and building skills, including superior organizational leadership skills—recruiting and retaining, motivating, organizing—with a record of achieving targeted outcomes.  Understanding of business case and implementation tools for responsible supply chain management and global fair employment practices. Keen ability to set priorities and deliver high quality work with limited resources.
  • Interpersonal and influencing attributes—capable of garnering support through thoughtful, logical argument as well as through teamwork and obtaining buy-in of critical team members internally and with key advisors.
  • Strong relationship builder and communicator with experience leading diverse work teams. A track record of developing and motivating team members including those who work abroad.
  • Passionate about SAI’s mission and able to promote and communicate the philosophy, mission and value of SAI to external and internal stakeholders. Consistently demonstrating honor and dedication to a public service mission.
  • Fundraising experience and success.
  • Tangible examples of reporting and program measurement and evaluation.
  • Familiarity with ILO conventions and other labor and human rights standards, capacity building, training, inspection procedures, standard development, publications, business management systems, marketing and fundraising.
  • Familiarity with international workplace human rights, CSR issues and organizations.
  • Desirable: communication skills, ability to be a storyteller of our work, give presentations to gain staff and peer support of key initiatives, experience with public speaking and presentation.
  • Master’s or PhD in a related discipline.
