An Inside Look at Day 1 of the Porter Novelli Purpose Summit on July 29th

The COVID-19 pandemic, a reckoning of social justice, a global recession, and a resounding call to action for all sectors to more deeply drive impact has fundamentally altered business today. To ensure short-term survival and long-term success, businesses must now consider the quickly changing expectations of their full range of stakeholders – employees, communities, consumers, investors and partners – and embrace the intersectionality of the issues we face as people, in business and around the world.

On Wednesday, July 29, we invite you to join the first day of our two day Porter Novelli Purpose Summit: The Era of Stakeholder-Centered Business to gain insight into the acceleration of a shareholder-only to a stakeholder-centered mandate for business, and to learn how your organization can take action today to both make an impact and build a more resilient reputation.  Here, we will be sharing insights from our own research, paired with perspectives from business leaders, partners and clients who are paving the way to a better future – from leading by example in diversity, equity and inclusion to internal change management programs and policies helping to advance systems-level change.

Register here, and review all sessions we’ll be hosting on the first day of the summit below.

Please stay tuned for registration and session details for Day 2.

  • 9:30-10:00 a.m. | Opening Remarks
Start the day with Porter Novelli CEO David Bentley and CMO Kate Cusick, as we set the stage for sessions that address the accelerated, shifting mandate for business today.
  • 10:00-10:45 a.m. | COVID-19 & Social Justice: Tracking Evolving Expectations
At the dawn of 2020, little of us knew our world would soon irrevocably change. In response to the uncertainty, we began regularly tracking public sentiment on issues and expectations of responsible companies. Join our  VP of Marketing Research & Insights, Whitney Dailey, in this session to unpack the key findings across our nine Tracker reports and learn how brands can not only navigate this tumultuous time, but also engage in proactive and impactful ways.
  • 11:00-12:00 p.m. | The Emerging Intersection of Purpose & Policy: The Vitality of Public-private Partnerships
With citizens seeking policy-changes to end systemic racism, while simultaneously millions lose access to healthcare and thousands of small businesses are shuttered, we not only look to business, but also policymakers on the federal, state and local level who must solidify the new rules for our deeply shaken society. Join executives from top brands, including Lenovo, American Cancer Society and Sandoz — alongside Porter Novelli’s Joe Farren, MD of Washington, D.C., and Rosemary McGillan, Partner and Global Purpose Practice Lead, to learn how brands and NGOs can be the bridge to close our political divide and effect change at the policy level.

  • 12:00-1:00 p.m.| Lunch Break

  • 2:15-3:15 p.m. | Employee Engagement in 2020: How to Keep an Employee-rooted Mindset Amid Continuous Change
In this session, join Porter Novelli’s Margaret-Ann Cole, Global Talent Lead, and Conroy Boxhill, MD Atlanta, as they dive into the intersection of COVID-19, social justice and diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) through the lens of employee engagement and show how agile change management can help companies quickly respond to the changing environment.

  • 3:30-4:00 p.m. | Meeting the Next Generation’s Expectations: Fireside Chat with the CEO, National 4-H Council
Join us for a conversation with Jennifer Sirangelo, President & CEO of 4-H Council, a national nonprofit focused on building youth leadership. Through their efforts, nearly six million kids  have taken on critical societal issues, such as addressing community health inequities, engaging in civil discourse and advocating for both equity and inclusion. For more than 14 years, Jennifer has been a part of this movement, and in this session, you’ll learn how impact of this scale was achieved – and how brands will meet the next generation’s expectations.

  • 4:00-4:30 p.m.| Closing Remarks
Join Porter Novelli’s CMO Kate Cusick, and VP of Marketing, Research & Insights Whitney Dailey, for a synthesis of key takeaways from the day’s sessions, and be sure to tune into the second half of our summit on Wednesday, August 5.
