// Hydro Ottawa’s Brighter Tomorrows Fund

There is an invisible current running throughout the city of Ottawa that contributes to the renewal of its most valuable resource – the citizens of the community. It is a quietly powerful by-product of Hydro Ottawa, the third largest municipally-owned electrical utility in Ontario. The Brighter Tomorrows Fund (BTF) is Hydro Ottawa’s targeted investment fund that helps community agencies serving people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless to invest in small scale energy-efficient technologies or products.

Contributing to the well-being of its community has always been a part of Hydro Ottawa’s core mandate. Since its inception in 2011, the BTF has allocated more than $219,000 to help community agencies invest in small scale capital projects that improve energy efficiency at their facilities.

Administered and delivered in partnership with United Way Ottawa/Centraide Ottawa, the BTF has supported 24 separate projects that include the replacement of 100 year old windows, the installation of high-efficiency heating systems and the purchase of energy-efficient appliances. These improvements help reduce the agencies’ energy bills, creating savings that the organizations can redirect into their programming. Watch the video!
