Connect To Good

Forty percent of the food produced in the U.S. ends up in landfills.* We know it means wasted food, but it also leads to excessive production of methane gas – a major contributor to the shrinking ozone layer.

Apply technology to the mix, and we can help solve challenges like methane emissions and have a positive impact on the environment.

That’s what Emerson has done with its Grind2Energy product.

Announced today at the AT&T Developer Summit prior to CES, AT&T and Emerson are teaming up to equip Grind2Energy – a system that quickly processes food waste into liquid “slurry” that is pumped into an on-site holding tank – with IoT connectivity. With new IoT capabilities, Emerson will be able to remotely monitor the slurry to determine how full the holding tanks are, then transport them to local anaerobic digestion facilities, where the harmful methane will be captured in a controlled environment and converted to renewable energy. All the while, Emerson will provide near real-time sustainability information, performance data reporting and data analytics to its customers using AT&T’s connectivity.

Learn more about how we’re building out the equation to find ways to better manage food waste, reduce methane emissions and produce renewable energy here.
