KUALA LUMPUR: FedEx volunteers in 12 Asia-Pacific markets, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, donated their time to community groups and programmes.

This is part of a global FedEx initiative involving more than 4,000 employees around the world.

Over 1,100 FedEx volunteers in Asia-Pacific supported local organisations in 31 community activities in various initiatives aimed at becoming catalysts for creating sustainable environments.

Sixty-seven FedEx employees and their family members here planted 300 tree saplings of the Tenggek Burung species to help rehabilitate the peat swamp forest at Parit 7, within the Raja Musa Forest Reserve in Kuala Selangor.

Another 17 FedEx employees in Johor Baru helped set up a vegetable garden within the grounds of the Persatuan Penjagaan Kanak Kanak Terencat Akal. This is the third year FedEx employees have volunteered their time at the association.

Another 110 FedEx employees and family members from Penang and Ipoh made it a double celebration by holding their FedEx Cares Week activity on Malaysia Day.

The volunteers planted 240 mangrove seedlings in Teluk Rubiah to help rehabilitate the mangrove swamp in Kuala Gula in Kerian, Perak.

"FedEx Cares Week is a global show of unity and a demonstration of our continued dedication to addressing the social needs of our local communities.

"We are continuing to build environmental responsibility into our daily business practices and our employee volunteers are actively engaged in instilling environmental awareness at the grassroot level in their local communities to help improve the quality of life," said FedEx Express Asia Pacific president David L. Cunningham Jr.

FedEx is committed to environmental sustainability and community programmes in Asia Pacific.

In March this year, FedEx launched Eco-drive in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

The aim is to improve fuel efficiency by changing the daily driving habits of FedEx drivers.

Along with the Eco-drive programme, the FedEx commitment to environmental sustainability includes shifting to more efficient vehicles and aircraft through increased investment in all-electric and alternative drive train vehicles and adding 777F aircraft to its fleet.

Since FedEx Cares Week was launched in the US in 2005, it has expanded to more than 40 countries and territories around the globe.

Together, FedEx volunteers around the world will donate thousands of hours of their time to serving local organisations.
