Families Struggling with Infertility Given Hope by Cade Foundation's Race for the Family®

PALATINE, Ill., June 14, 2012 / 3BL Media / PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, June 23, local families, couples and individuals will participate in the first annual Illinois Race for the Family® to raise funds for families undergoing infertility treatment or pursuing domestic adoption. Hosted by Fertility Centers of Illinois® and sponsored by Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Clifford Law Offices, the Cade Foundation's Race for the Family will help to impact an issue which affects nearly one in eight couples during their reproductive years.[i]  For more information, to register for the race or participate in the silent auction, visit http://www.ilraceforthefamily.com or watch a video about the initiative here.

Patients like Kelly Baskin are those whom this initiative will help. Baskin, 34, was able to conceive her son, Bo, through in vitro fertilization. "We are so grateful that organizations like this are out there to raise awareness of infertility and offer solutions without which my husband and I would not have been able to start our family," Baskin said.

Fertility treatments can be an economic burden to the approximately two million infertile couples in the U.S.[ii] According to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the average cycle of in vitro fertilization (IVF) in the U.S. costs $12,400.[iii] Proceeds from the Race for the Family will help the Cade Foundation provide financial assistance to couples dealing with infertility for help with treatment or domestic adoption.

"We are thrilled to be hosting our first Race for the Family here in Illinois. This event will not only help to raise awareness of an issue that affects millions of couples, but also allow us to provide grants for infertility treatment and domestic adoption to families who are struggling with infertility," said Dr. Camille Hammond, co-founder of the Cade Foundation, whose mother, Dr. Tinina Cade, carried and delivered the Hammonds' triplets following five years of infertility.

About the Race

The first annual Illinois Race for the Family will take place at the Deer Grove Forest Preserve located at 1898 N. Quentin Road in Palatine, Ill., from 8 -11 a.m. CDT on Saturday, June 23.
