October 23, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Less than one year after Eastman Chemical Company broke ground on its new Corporate Business Center, the company celebrated the latest milestone in a “Topping Out” ceremony that commemorated completion of the building’s steelwork. The Corporate Business Center will be a significant expansion of the company’s current corporate campus, located on South Wilcox Drive in Kingsport, Tenn.

“We’re off to a great start on a multi-year journey that will strengthen our company and benefit all of our stakeholders,” said Eastman Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mark Costa. “This building and our continued investment in the Kingsport site affirm Eastman’s commitment to the region. As Eastman grows, it provides an opportunity for our company to positively impact our local economy, while allowing our employees to give back to the communities that have been such strong partners in our success.”

The new Corporate Business Center is designed as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED-certified building that uses best-in-class sustainable building strategies and practices, and will feature a number of Eastman’s products that are used in the building and construction market. Once completed in 2015, the building will house more than 850 employees in approximately 300,000 square feet of space.

The Corporate Business Center is part of Project Inspire, which is Eastman’s multi-year $1.6 billion investment in the Kingsport site. Project Inspire enables the company to invest in, among other things, new growth opportunities, safety and environmental projects, increased warehouse capacity, and building renovations.

Inside Eastman’s Kingsport manufacturing site, Project Inspire focuses on investments in three main areas: growth (such as adding capacity for Eastman TritanTM copolyester), modernization (including technology enhancements), and safety and environmental projects (for example emergency notification system upgrades).

“We are building the infrastructure and technology that will fuel our growth as a company,” said Mark K. Cox, senior vice president, chief engineering & manufacturing officer. “Kingsport is the hub of Eastman’s global operations and investments in this site benefit the company as a whole. These improvements will also strengthen our position as a leader in safety, sustainability and innovation.”

Project Inspire includes investment in Eastman’s advanced manufacturing training needs through the Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing (RCAM), managed by Northeast State Community College. A $10 million state grant helps to support program and equipment needs, new program development, facilities expansion, educational outreach and career services. RCAM is operated through the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership which includes Eastman, Northeast State, Domtar, and state and community partners. Eastman’s ability to operate efficiently and focus on growth projects associated with Project Inspire relies heavily on having a highly skilled manufacturing workforce in place and working safely. Unlike other entities in the state with strong industry alignment, RCAM is an open facility, meaning any and all students regardless of industry affiliation are able to participate in its programs and services. It remains a key driver in regional economic development efforts.

Through collaboration with customers, governments, educators and key non-government stakeholders and world leaders, Eastman has been bringing world-class science and engineering to the global marketplace in the form of innovative products and materials since 1920. Project Inspire confirms Eastman’s commitment to growth here in Tennessee, ensuring that for years to come, the company will provide a significant positive impact on the local, as well as state economy.

“We appreciate the support of the State, the City of Kingsport, the Kingsport Economic Development Board and Sullivan County for working with us to support the construction of the new corporate business center. Eastman has a long history in Kingsport, and we look forward to continuing to be an active part of the community. We are committed to making each of our communities stronger,” said David Golden, senior vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary.
