By focusing on technologies that enable sustainable practices, Eastman, Ford and BASF brought a level of expertise to the industry that could only be achieved through co-innovation. “What we needed was an alternative rheological control system that was able to deliver sustainability in terms of compact paint processing -- shrink the footprint, shrink the energy required,” says Tim Weingartz, materials manager - paint engineering group for Ford Motor Company. This unique triumvirate developed a technology that Weingartz describes as “on the cutting edge side of what we do.”
In this collaboration, there was a high level of trust among all three companies. “All the parties have a vested interest and can add value to bring a better product to market,” remarks Tim December, group leader - R &D for BASF
Superior rheology technology enables the automotive coatings industry to provide consumers the aesthetics they are looking for when making a car purchase.
