Earth Force and GM Recognize Teachers for Environmental Education

GM Foundation and Earth Force continually recognize teachers with the Chevrolet GREEN (Global Rivers Environmental Education Network) Educator Award for integrating environmental education into their school or community curriculums.

One of the recipients, Diana Johns, explains in the above video the significance of helping students establish an emotional connection to the subject matter, and, in effect, ensuring they retain the lesson past the next test. Diana is a science teacher and science department chair at Crestwood High in Dearborn Heights, Mich., and was recognized this week during a ceremony at the school.

She is committed to providing a tangible link to her students' communities and works closely with GM engineers at nearby facilities, as well as the Friends of the Rouge  organization, to provide her students water monitoring experiences each year.

Teachers who extend their environmental knowledge to tomorrow’s leaders and problem solvers are helping grow our nation’s culture of sustainability today—something in which GM and its Foundation believes.
