St. Croix, USVI, March 16, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Diageo USVI C.A.R.E.’s, an employee group at Diageo USVI, invites all USVI residents to join them at the Nemecio “Mecio” Camacho III Bowl for Charity on Sunday, March 22. The annual event honors their fellow employee and friend who died tragically in March 2012 at 23 years old. Camacho was a bowler himself, having worked his way into competitive bowling by age 10.

Netta Mitchell, a friend and co-chair of Diageo USVI C.A.R.E.’s said, “We wanted to remember Mecio and celebrate his life by doing something we all know he loved while giving back to a charity in his honor.”

Tropical Ten Pins Bowling Alley in Castle Coakley will once again host the Bowl for Charity. Lanes will be open for complimentary bowling on a first come, first served basis from 2pm until 5pm on the day of the event. Attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items that will be donated to Lutheran Social Services.

The year will be the third time Diageo USVI C.A.R.E.s will hold the Bowl for Charity. The group was created to connect team members and communities of the USVI through personal development, volunteerism, family and social events. In addition to charitable works, Diageo C.A.R.E.s also engages in team-building for employees.

“With the full backing of the company, we started Diageo USVI C.A.R.E.s in 2012 to support one another on our career journeys in Diageo and to work together in positively impacting our community,” explained group chair Tanisea James-Smith. “The annual Bowl for Charity is an event that is especially important to us.”

The C.A.R.E.s team also has completed beach clean-ups, local park painting projects, school supplies drives, holiday decorating at the Herbert Grigg Home for the Aged and tree planting in Diageo’s neighboring Harvey Community. Plans are underway for this year’s second annual health and fitness day for employees and their families. Within the company, the C.A.R.E.s recognition and the Star Performer programs promote individual work accomplishments, and monthly cross-functional team building exercises highlight the company’s focus on safety and quality and encourage good communication and career exploration.
