WASHINGTON, March 13, 2014 /3BL Media/ – The College & University Recycling Coalition (CURC), in partnership with Keep America Beautiful(KAB) and the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), has announced the schedule for its 2014 series of educational webinars, sponsored by Alcoa Foundation. The series of six, bi-monthly programs provides technical best practices information and case study presentations to college recycling and sustainability professionals.

“There is a wealth of experience on college campuses about how to build and expand effective recycling programs,” said Robyn Hathcock, chair of the CURC Board of Directors. “The CURC webinar series is the premier forum for campus recycling professionals and leaders to share that valuable expertise and knowledge.”

CURC webinars feature recognized collegiate and industry recycling experts covering a range of topics related to sustainable materials management. The 2014 schedule presents a balanced menu of topics to serve all CURC members, whether they are beginning a recycling program or fine-tuning an existing one.

“Instituting sustainability practices at universities is an important way to show teachers and students how to adopt environmentally responsible behaviors. When sustainability professionals at universities share the good work they are doing, the best practices and resources at the campus level get leveraged across the country,” says Esra Ozer, president of Alcoa Foundation. “Alcoa is committed to reducing our environmental footprint, recycling and replenishing natural resources, and we are proud to support universities and students in their efforts to do the same.”

Join CURC for an exciting year of discussion and learning, as it addresses some of the most pressing issues in collegiate recycling.  All presentations are free to registered participants and take place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST, unless otherwise noted. The schedule and topics are as follows:

  • March 13, 2014: The Science of Getting People to Use the Bin
  • May 15, 2014: Taking Your Recycling Program to the Next Level
  • July 10, 2014: A Different Look at Game Day and Special Event Recycling

About the College & University Recycling Coalition
The College & University Recycling Coalition (CURC) is a membership-based nonprofit organization made up of campus-based recycling and sustainability professionals seeking to exchange technical knowledge and best practices on recycling and waste reduction programs between institutions of higher learning.
