Our Commitment to Sustainability

We’re committed to a world in which biodiversity thrives in harmony with humankind. Where hunger and climate change are terms relegated to history books. Digital Fluency: An Intelligent Approach to A.I.
Artificial intelligence (A.I.) is not the future. A.I. is the now, delivering real benefits for people and businesses today, in addition to holding extraordinary potential for accelerating innovation and creating even greater efficiencies down the road. At Monsanto, we recognize that the world of agriculture is being transformed by data science, and A.I. is a major part of that.

We Can’t Afford Simplistic, Binary Thinking When It Comes to Food Production
As head of R&D for a major vegetable seed company, I get to travel around the world to meet with farmers and many other veggie-loving stakeholders from across the food chain. Thanks to events hosted by our seed brands, De Ruiter and Seminis, I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with vegetable suppliers, grocery retailers, restaurateurs, renowned chefs, food writers/bloggers, and other stakeholders. I have also had wonderful opportunities to speak at many culinary or “foodie” events.

Monsanto and Iowa State Partner to Improve Water Quality
Monsanto Company, along with its subsidiary, The Climate Corporation, today announced a partnership with the Iowa State University (ISU) Department of Agronomy to create an infrastructure project designed to monitor water quality and downstream nitrate loss. The project will provide researchers with valuable information on management practices that help keep nitrogen fertilizer from entering surrounding waterways.

A Feast for Iguanas
The green iguana population there has dwindled significantly. Population growth, illegal hunting, and the mismanagement of resources – the environment’s usual enemies – had conspired to reduce their numbers to frightening levels. Thankfully, the people at Monsanto’s Research and Development site in Salama, a city in north-central Guatemala, helped come to the rescue in their community.

How Data Is Driving Sustainability for Farmers
The data revolution is helping us all make better decisions and farmers are no exception. In the same way that we trust fitness trackers to encourage us to exercise more, watch what we eat and get enough sleep, digital agriculture continues to take root and gain wider acceptance with farmers. In fact, digital apps on smartphones and tablets are helping farmers to collect, store and visualize critical field data so they can make the best decisions throughout the year.
