The Home – The Hearth – The Windows

As long as humans have been living in structures, they have been innovating on the size, shape and the materials used to increase comfort and heating/cooling efficiency. One might think that there’s nothing left to do, but in fact the opposite is true. Home is where we spend much of our time and as such there is no limit to what we’ll do to improve the comfort and beauty of the space. In this mini-series sponsored by Pella Windows and Doors, we’ll take a peek through the world of windows to better understand how the right choices can keep our rooms comfortable, beautiful, and well-lit.

How the Right Screen Can Increase a Home’s Energy Efficiency
The window screen is engineered to do more than block out mosquitoes, spiders and pesky flies. It’s a critical part of the ventilation system of a house, particularly in the summer. And when a house – and its windows – are constructed well, those open, protected apertures can often reduce the dependency on high-emissions, expensive air conditioning systems.
