GLAAD Media Awards Recognize “Battle of the Sexes,” "The Shape of Water,” and More Fox Projects for Outstanding LGBTQ Representation
Eleven film and television projects from 21st Century Fox businesses received nominations for the 29th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. The awards honor media and entertainment for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community, as well as the issues that affect their lives. Nominees included Battle of the Sexes, The Shape of Water, This Is Us, Modern Family, One Mississippi, and more.

21CF Earns 23 Nominations for NAACP Image Awards Celebrating Achievements of People of Color in Media
Long-running drama series, feature documentaries, major motion pictures and more from 21st Century Fox businesses were announced on November 20 as nominees for the 49th NAACP Image Awards, an annual program celebrating the achievements of people of color across the entertainment industry. The company received a total of 23 nominations for projects such as FOX’s Empire, Twentieth Century Fox Television’s This Is Us, and Fox Searchlight’s documentary STEP. The winners will be announced during an awards ceremony in Los Angeles, hosted by Anthony Anderson, which will air live on Monday, Jan. 15, at 9 p.m. ET on TV One.

21CF and National Geographic Sponsor American Black Film Festival’s Documentary Initiative, Announce Muta’Ali as Inaugural Winner
The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) and the production company Lightboxhave named director Muta’Ali as the winner of the first ever ABFF Lightbox Documentary Initiative, a new annual program sponsored by 21st Century Fox and National Geographic to support new voices in documentary film. As the winner of the competition, Muta’Ali will receive funding for his feature-length documentary project, Storm Over Brooklyn, which commemorates the 30th anniversary of the killing of 16 year-old Yusuf Hawkins. ABFF and Lightbox will work with Muta’Ali to develop the project, which is set to premiere at the American Black Film Festival in Miami in June 2019.

The American Black Film Festival and Lightbox Announce Winner of the 2017 Documentary Film Initiative
The American Black Film Festival and Lightbox, the award-winning U.S. and U.K. production company, today announced that director Muta’Ali is the recipient of their first annual documentary film development fund. Muta’Ali will work with Lightbox and ABFF to develop his feature documentary Storm Over Brooklyn. The ABFF Lightbox Documentary Initiative was launched earlier this year to support and foster documentary filmmakers with diverse voices and perspectives and is sponsored by 21st Century Fox and National Geographic.

21CF Global Inclusion Hosts Breakfast Honoring Alums of Inaugural Fox Filmmakers Lab, Women Directors at AFI Fest in Hollywood
On Friday, Nov. 10, 21st Century Fox Global Inclusion hosted a breakfast to honor the 25 participants of 20th Century Fox’s inaugural Fox Filmmakers Lab, a highly selective lab designed to help increase the number of female directors working in the industry. The breakfast also celebrated the 40 women directors whose films are showcased in the 31st Annual AFI Fest, which runs Nov. 9-16, 2017, in Hollywood. Over 100 guests, including female filmmakers and Fox executives, networked and continued to forge relationships that started through the Fox Filmmakers Lab.

The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) And Lightbox Announce Partnership to Foster Diversity in Documentary Filmmaking
The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) and Lightbox, a multi-platform media company focused on creating high quality non-fiction programming for film, television and digital platforms, announced they will collaborate on a new initiative to foster diversity in the feature documentary arena. Selected films will be developed and produced by Lightbox and the newly formed ABFF Films division and executive produced by ABFF Ventures CEO Jeff Friday and Lightbox co-founders Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn. The first of the ABFF’s annual Feature Documentary Competition is being co-sponsored by National Geographic and 21st Century Fox, who will fully fund the development of the selected films.

21st Century Fox Announces Winners of “Hidden Figures” Free Screening Contest
In celebration of February’s Black History Month and March’s Women’s History Month, 21st Century Fox and AMC Theatres invited schools, community groups, and non-profit organizations to apply for special screenings of Academy Award-nominated Hidden Figures. Over 7,000 groups applied for free screenings, resulting in approximately 3,500 free tickets distributed across the U.S.

Fox Announces 13 Finalists for the Fox Writers Lab, a Fellowship Program for Screenwriters with Diverse Voices and Backgrounds
For the sixth consecutive year, Fox has sought out some of Hollywood’s most exciting new voices to participate in the Fox Writers Lab, a fellowship program hosted by Fox Inclusion for young screenwriters with diverse perspectives, backgrounds and life experiences. The 13 finalists will work directly with Fox’s writers, directors, executives and more to hone their craft on the Fox Studios Lot in Los Angeles, with opportunities for staffing on the company’s film, television and digital productions. The Fox Writers Lab is one of several programs at 21st Century Fox designed to support the next generation of storytellers and create a pipeline of diverse talent into the industry.
