Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Wednesday, April 28th:

The Gap has announced a new record for the company’s “Recycle Your Blues” campaign, held last month. In two weeks, more than 270,000 pairs of old jeans were donated to be converted into cotton fiber housing insulation for 500 homes in underserved communities and for special projects, such as the rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. This number matches the total amount of denim collected in the four year history of the campaign, led by Cotton Incorporated. Donors received a 30 percent discount on a new pair of 1969 Premium Jeans in return.

A “Third Party Logistics Sustainability Report” published by Penske Logisitic shows that most global 3PL providers are maintaining and even expanding their sustainability programs, despite the recession, due to the cost savings they have generated. 28 of 35 3PL CEOs polled said sustainability programs reduced operating expenses, especially fuel costs. Sustainability programs surveyed revealed broad efforts, from fuel consumption management to alternative energy use. The 35 3PLs represent a total of $60 billion dollars in annual revenue.
