March 26, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Mondi Group, the international packaging and paper company, has today published the progress made in 2012 with its sustainable development commitments.

Mondi has continued to develop and evolve its reporting and for 2012 has disclosed its performance through three separate but interrelated elements: its 2012 Integrated report and financial statements, its Sustainable development report – available exclusively online – and this year, for the first time, its performance in the context of the world’s most pressing sustainability issues in a document entitled Shaping our sustainable future, also released today.

Shaping our sustainable future uses the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s (WBCSD) Vision 2050 pathways to provide an independent, verifiable means of measuring progress. It also presents a particular emphasis on the innovative and long-term solutions developed to ensure full compliance and contribution from its operations throughout the world.

Mondi has responded to three sustainability issues which it considers material to its business: our sustainable development in a challenging macroeconomic environment, our sustainable development in a resource and ecologically constrained environment, and our sustainable socioeconomic development in our diverse working and social environments. Mondi has considered a number of commitments in each of these material issues, as well as in light of our risk management process and broad stakeholder engagement.

These commitments will enable the Group to make further progress against the objectives set out to ensure its sustainable, responsible performance.

Announcing the report's publication, David Hathorn, Mondi Group chief executive, said:

"It has always been our view that actions speak louder than words. Sustainable development is an integral part of our business, and as such our licence to trade, and all that this entails, underpins everything we do. Securing and maintaining this licence is a responsibility and accountability held at the most senior levels of management within our organisation."
