CONTENT: Press Release

Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Friday, February 26th:

Sprint Nextel continues to support Haiti relief efforts by donating mobile phones, cell towers, portable generators, and other cell-site equipment to help with communications. In addition, Sprint will credit fees for long-distance calls from the U.S. to Haiti, retroactive from Jan 12th, and continuing to the end of this month. To date, Sprint customers have contributed nearly $5 million dollars through mobile-giving donations. Sprint has also matched the $102,000 given by its employees to the American Red Cross since the earthquake, raising its financial contribution to more than $250,000.

Students at the University of Georgia have agreed to pay an extra $3 dollars in student fees to help their university go green. The new fees are expected to generate around $150,000 dollars annually, and will fund a new Office of Sustainability. The Office will coordinate all environmental and sustainability efforts on the campus, from recycling to transportation to energy efficiency, previously handled ad hoc by various departments. The Office will also offer internships in green practices to interested students.
