Office Depot and I.C.L.E.I.—Local Governments for Sustainability USA, have launched the National Green Business Challenge with cities across the country. The Challenge aims to engage local property managers and tenants in a friendly competition to save energy, reduce waste and water use, and use greener products. Office Depot is providing core funding and technical advice for the national rollout of the program. I.C.L.E.I. USA is an association of 600 local government members who are committed to sustainable development.
Centrica, the U.K. energy company, has released its 2010 Corporate Responsibility Report. Among the highlights are a reduction in U.K. power generation carbon intensity by 25 percent, the installation of 250,000 “smart” meters, and a commitment to recruit 3,700 additional employees by the end of 2012 to support the company’s low carbon business. Centrica was rated 80th in The Times’ Top 100 Graduate Employer list, the highest position ever held by an energy utility company.
