Lilly has a proud legacy of giving back and lifting up that originates with the company’s founder, Colonel Eli Lilly. In 2013, we continued those efforts through a mix of traditional philanthropy and new approaches to help people in need.

Last year, we gave more than $750 million in charitable contributions to help people living in impoverished communities, patients facing financial hardship, and families struggling to recover from natural disasters, among others.  This is an increase of $50 million compared to 2012.  About 90 percent of our total philanthropy is driven by the value of product donations associated with our U.S.-based patient assistance programs.
