After the opportunity arose for Mary Morrissey-Ross, a nurse and Ph.D. in Public Health student at Walden University, to accompany her 13-year-old son to Africa, Mary’s life’s work took on a different meaning. After meeting people in Senegal who confirmed some published research that indicates that diabetes and hypertension are emerging problems in their country, she felt compelled to use her nursing skills. When she returned to the U.S. she was inspired to do more and go back for a medical trip. Since that time she has made two additional trips to Senegal, Africa, and implemented screenings to address emerging diabetes and hypertension concerns in Senegal. Mary hopes to continue her trips and work in Africa.
