LA Kings Raise More Than $175,000 for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles
AEG’s LA Kings raised more than $175,000 for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) at the team’s annual Golf Tournament at Pacific Palms Resort on October 2.
The golf tournament, which serves as a fundraiser for CHLA, was attended by all of the current LA Kings players, numerous alumni and the team’s hockey operations executives who participated in the 18-hole tournament along with more than 140 donors.
The timing of the event, just one day after the mass shooting in Las Vegas at the Route 91 Festival, was an all-too-real reminder of the importance of the team’s commitment to CHLA’s department of Pathology. For that reason, the team opted to move forward with the fundraiser.
“Our organization was personally impacted by the terrible events in Las Vegas but we felt that we must be proactive in our response to the tragedy,” said Jennifer Pope, Vice President of the Kings Care Foundation. “We raise money each year for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to ensure those in need of blood products have access to it. We decided to move forward with the Golf Tournament because victims and patients need these valuable resources now more than ever.”
With the help of the LA Kings, CHLA’s department of Pathology is self-sufficient in blood products. Funds from the tournament will continue to benefit improvements to the blood donation process and research on how transfusions impact children’s genes.
