Comerica Employee Fundraisers Impact Special Causes
Colleagues raised approximately $130,000 for four major Detroit-based community initiatives in 2019
Number one.
That’s where Comerica Bank finished among corporate fundraising teams for the Henry Ford Health System Game on Cancer campaign that collaborates with the Detroit Lions and Detroit Pistons.
Comerica received the honor at a special recognition event for contributors held at Ford Field Friday, Nov. 8.
In total, Comerica employees raised approximately $21,000. This year’s tally surpassed last year’s campaign after an anonymous donor matched dollar-for-dollar funds raised by employees up to $10,000, and the bank surpassed that number.
Game on Cancer, now in its fifth year, raises funds for research and supports patients fighting cancer by eliminating barriers and burdens associated with treatment. The peer-to-peer, team-based fundraiser commits 100-percent of funds raised directly to support patient assistance, research and supportive oncology programs.
Game on Cancer represented the fourth significant employee fundraising event of the 2019 calendar year, and the second in the month of October, that supports a Detroit-based community organization.
At the beginning of the month, employees teamed up to support American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the Real Men Wear Pink campaigns.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer unites communities while raising money to help the American Cancer Society fight breast cancer through research and early detection. The event inspires an opportunity to honor breast cancer survivors and ensure no one with this disease ever has to walk alone.
In concert with Making Strides, Real Men Wear Pink organizes a distinguished group of community leaders determined to raise awareness and money to support the American Cancer Society's mission. Comerica Senior Vice President of Technology Operations Mike Lawson served as this year Comerica representative.
Organized by vice presidents Roxsand Dobson and Lori Clark, along with executive champion and Executive Vice President-National Retail Banking Director Rhonda Davenport, both campaigns benefited the ACS as employees raised approximately $46,000.
Earlier this year, Comerica employees turned out to support the United Negro College Fund Detroit Walk in August and the America Heart Associations Heart/Stroke Walk in May, which Comerica placed fourth among all corporate teams.
Overall, the four major employee-driven fundraisers collectively supported their respective Detroit-based causes by contributing approximately $130,000 and raised close to $250,000 over the previous two years.
Organized by Comerica volunteers, employee fundraisers feature a combination of teams from different departments or employee-interest areas. Volunteers make personal donations and hold a wide-variety of internal and external fundraising activities to accumulate donation funds.
