BALTIMORE, April 2, 2019 /3BL Media/— Legg Mason announced today that it has received a perfect score of 100 on the 2019 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality. Legg Mason joins the ranks of more than 560 major U.S. businesses that also earned top marks in this year’s survey, which is administered by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation.

“Our support of the LGBTQ+ community is an important part of our overall diversity and inclusion strategy,” said Regina Curry, Legg Mason’s Chief Diversity Officer. “As a company, it’s important for us to encourage diverse perspectives at every level, work together toward shared goals and champion social equality.”

The 2019 CEI evaluates LGBTQ+-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBTQ+ community. Legg Mason’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria results in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality.

“We’re thrilled that Legg Mason continues to be a strong ally, supporting us as we actively seek to educate and broaden awareness of LGBTQ+ issues for all employees of Legg Mason and its affiliates,” said Michael P. Mayer, chairperson of Legg Mason’s employee resource group known as LEAD (LGBTQ+ Employees & Allies for Diversity). Mayer is also Client Service Manager at ClearBridge Investments, a Legg Mason affiliate.

LEAD is focused on creating a safe, open, inclusive and productive work community for all employees without regard to sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. In addition to establishing and recognizing allies and offering awareness education and training, LEAD provides both financial and volunteer support to key organizations in the U.S. and U.K., such as Moveable Feast in Baltimore, which offers food and services to individuals suffering from HIV/AIDS, breast cancer and terminal illnesses. During last year’s Maryland AIDS Walk and Run, Legg Mason brought home the trophy for the largest corporate team fundraiser.

In addition to this honor, Legg Mason has earned recognition as one of Pensions & Investments’ Best Places to Work in 2018 as well as 2016 and 2017. It was also included in the JUST 100 rankings by JUST Capital and Forbes in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
